About Us

Aratrika Eyecare and Research Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, incorporated as a Section 8 company in 2024 with a dedicated mission to prevent and eliminate avoidable blindness in Punjab.

The name “Aratrika,” derived from Sanskrit, refers to a sacred ritual that dispels darkness, symbolizing the very essence of our mission.
In Punjab, there is a significant gap in access to quality eye care, particularly for underserved communities. With limited eye care institutes available, many individuals lack access to essential treatment. The Aratrika Eyecare and Research Foundation was established to bridge this gap, providing accessible, affordable, and effective eye care.

“We are committed to providing 100% free screening and covering 90% of surgical costs for underserved populations.”

Our Team

“Bringing together passionate doctors and teachers, our team is devoted to making a lasting impact in rural areas.”

About Us

At Aratrika Eye Care Foundation, we believe that vision is not just a sense—it’s a gift. Our mission is to bring light into lives clouded by preventable blindness and visual impairment. Through dedicated eye care services, outreach programs, and awareness campaigns, we strive to ensure that no one is left in the dark due to lack of access or resources.

Founded with compassion at its core, Aratrika is more than a foundation—it’s a movement of hope, healing, and humanity. From organizing free eye check-ups in underserved areas to supporting critical surgeries and providing glasses to children in need, every initiative is a step toward a clearer, brighter future for all.

Because when we help someone see the world again, we remind them—and ourselves—of all the beauty that still exists in it.

MISSION SAVERA

Restoring Sight with Cataract Surgeries

In rural areas, cataracts remain one of the leading causes of visual impairment, especially among the elderly. Mission Savera is a dedicated rural eye health initiative by Aratrika Eye care and research Foundation that brings free or subsidized cataract screening and surgeries directly to underserved communities. Our expert medical teams conduct thorough on-site eye exams to identify patients in need and offer surgeries using the advanced Phacoemulsification technique—ensuring minimal invasiveness, faster recovery, and superior visual outcomes compared to traditional SICS (Small Incision cataract Surgery) Our commitment doesn’t end with surgery. Every patient receives comprehensive post-operative care, medications, and prescription glasses to ensure the best long-term results. Backed by a transparent cost model, each surgery costs INR 6,000—with 100% of donations going directly to restoring sight. By combining quality care, cutting-edge technology, and community education, Mission Savera empowers individuals with the gift of vision and a renewed chance at life.

MISSION VIKAS

School Eye Screening for a Brighter Future

Mission Vikas is a school-based eye health initiative focused on early detection and treatment of vision problems in children, especially refractive errors that often go unnoticed. With limited access to eye care in rural and underserved communities, many children struggle with poor vision that directly affects their academic performance, development, and overall well-being. Through this program, our team conducts free eye screenings in schools to identify issues early, ensuring timely intervention before they impact a child’s future. Children diagnosed with refractive errors are provided with prescription glasses completely free of charge, and those with more serious conditions are referred to Savera Hospital for affordable treatment. In addition to medical support, Mission Vikas promotes sustainable eye health awareness through educational workshops for students, teachers, and parents, fostering a culture of regular eye check-ups. With each pair of spectacles costing just INR 500, your donation can directly transform a child’s life by giving them the clear vision they need to succeed.

MISSION JYOTI

Corneal Transplantation for the Gift of Sight

Mission Jyoti, an initiative by the Aratrika Eye Care and Research Foundation in partnership with Savera Hospital, is committed to restoring vision for individuals suffering from corneal blindness by offering free or low-cost corneal transplant surgeries. With over 4 million people affected by this condition in India, the high cost of treatment and lack of awareness make access to care extremely limited—especially for those from underserved backgrounds. Through targeted outreach camps, walk-in services, and community awareness efforts, we aim to identify patients in need and offer them advanced surgical options such as Penetrating Keratoplasty, DALK, DSEK, and DMEK, tailored to each case. The initiative covers the complete treatment journey, from diagnostic investigations and high-quality donor tissue to surgery and post-operative care, ensuring the highest standards of care. While the cost of an optical transplant is INR 19,720 and a therapeutic transplant is INR 10,720, all surgeries are performed with no surgeon or hospital fees. Mission Jyoti also invests in training local healthcare professionals and promoting corneal donation to create lasting impact. With your support, we can restore sight, dignity, and independence to those who need it most.

Our mission is to lead the effort in Punjab to eliminate preventable blindness by 2030.

Punjab, one of India’s most economically challenged states, is home to a population of 104 million, with around 700,000 individuals suffering from total blindness. Through thousands of eye camps we conduct annually, we estimate that the number of blind individuals in Punjab is rising by roughly 100,000 each year.

Aratrika Eye Care Foundation began its mission to cure blindness in December 2015 initially focusing on Punjab. Today, it stands as one of India’s top five eye care hospitals, offering a wide range of services including cataract surgeries, specialized treatments for glaucoma, retinal conditions, pediatric eye care, and correction of refractive errors.

We firmly believe that no one should endure blindness simply due to the inability to afford treatment. Given the high poverty levels in Punjab, we are committed to offering 80% of our surgeries free of charge to those unable to bear the cost, up until 2026.

We are empowering women to take the lead in our mission to eliminate blindness. Since 2015, we've been training rural girls to become certified optometrists, with a goal of enrolling 1,500 girls in our program by 2030.
